Books Here and There

I really love books - that's why I'm here. Sometimes I write reviews, though they are not always that good.

I also have a great love for animals and have a rabbit, two dogs, a cat and two rats at the moment.

Dark Flame (Immortals) - Alyson Noël

This was definitely the WORST book in this series yet. I tolerated the idiocy of the main character up to this point only because I thought there was a chance she would grow out of it. Did she? NOT A CHANCE!!! I couldn't even finish this because even after a few pages it looked pretty much the same as all the others.

Ever: "I love you Damen!"

Problem that threatens Ever and Damen's relationship.

Struggling with problem.

Solution.

This isn't exactly a healthy relationship. Ever shouldn't rely on him that much, it isn't healthy. It also probably isn't the best idea to have no life outside of Mr. Perfect Damen. I get that she still hangs out with her friends, they really don't seem to matter to her anymore. Even when she's with them he is all she thinks about. GAAAHHH!!!

Unbound - Brant Williams

This book is one of the best I have read in a while. Although I know feel completely depressed and want to go live in a hole for a while so that I won't have to talk to anyone.I just am amazed how many of my favorite characters died. I am very much afraid that the next book will be even more depressing, though I do look forward to it.

Relic: The Books of Eva 1 - Heather Terrell

I received an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. And I honestly loved it, a problem since it isn't published until October so I have to wait s really long time for the sequel. I don't want to give anything away to those who didn't get an arc copy but I will say that Eva is a lovable character with a strong opinion on what is right and wrong. I highly recommend Relic to those looking for a futuristic fiction and a fast plot that leaves you begging for more. it was definitely one of my favorite books.

Incarnate - Jodi Meadows

I really felt connected with Ana and I really felt sorry for what she was going through (although I can't say I have much experience on reincarnation). I know most teenagers worry about their futures and who they are. But it really seemed hard for Ana seeing as she was the only teenager in the entire world.  I'm surprised she didn't crack and back talk Li all the time or even smack her around a few times! I really hope that I will be able to find more books similar in nature to Incarnate as I've never really read about reincarnation before...(except one really really poorly organized book with no real point)

Cinderella is Evil - Jamie Campbell

It was an interesting idea to write from Cinderella's stepsister's perspective. But since all the stepsister in question seemed to be capable of doing was whining about how ugly she was and how Cinderella was a spoiled brat, it got old fast. I don't really appreciate it how her part of the family that was complaining about something like money and their ugliness. As much as I hated Cinderella I can easily understand why she would feel less then happy with her step-family.

Indelible - Dawn Metcalf

This book was originally on my 'must-read' list but I'm afraid it just fell a little short to me.

It's incredibly hard to love a book if you don't like its main character. Joy was immensely hard for me to like, I struggled to see where she was coming from time and time again. But her reliance on others and tenancy to over react just got on my nerves. However I liked her "best friend," Monica, even less. What kind of friend best or otherwise abandons you right after you've experienced a traumatic event? I hope none of my friends ever do that to me, I cant even begin to express how unfriendly I would feel towards them. It would be exceptable, I suppose, if they had a good reason for doing so. Let me just say that Monica had just about the worst reason ever, and Joy just brushed it off! Ugh!

Ink and Inq were the only reason I ended up enjoying reading this book. Their unique perspectives were iintriguing I especially liked Ink because he saw everything involving humans through fresh eyes. Unfortunately his lack of experience with humans was probably what drove him to be interested in Joy who I imagine he would have been much better without. Inq I liked a little less than Ink because of some of her strange behaviors that I didn't particularly agree with. Overall I really enjoyed their opinions and ways of seeing things.

But just please. Please let me throw something heavy at Joy. Like refrigerator heavy or so. She reminded me just a little too much of Bella Swan.

The Testing - Joelle Charbonneau

I received The Testing in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't entirely sure of what to think when I picked up The Testing. Now that I've finished reading it I further wonder how people can possibly enjoy The Hunger Games so much when books like this are out there.

Cia Vale, the main character of The Testing, was amazing. Not many authors seem to be capable of creating such likable characters who aren't heavily conceited or shallow and boy crazy. I always find it a relief to find a book where the romantic interest doesn't save the heroine at every turn. It makes books that could have been amazing dull when that kind of thing is always happening.

Tomas was also a likable character. I really appreciated how he didn't protect or rely on Cia too much. That kind of behavior has often made me drop a book like it was on fire in the past.

I can't wait for Independent Study to come out! I just can't!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT!
The Last Victim: A Novel - Karen Robards

You would think that after viewing the killings of a family at a young age you would avoid serial killers. Dr. Charlotte Stone did the opposite, this alone intrigued me. Why not get a job that keeps you farther away from those kind of people? Charlie's character then surprised me again by not being vulnerable or timid in the face of danger but for the most part tough and independent.
Her relationship with Garland however, truly confused me. For starters he is a ghost and was in prison because he was a serial killer, and then all of a suddenly Charlie goes from despising him to trusting him add to the mess her feelings for him and habit of yelling at him and it makes perfect sense . Although I liked her I find Charlie's logic to be a bit muddled.
I would recommend this book to someone looking for a book with an ending on the unexpected side and a tough minded, but sometimes dependent, heroine.

Reveal (Paranormal Romance) (Cryptid Tales) - Brina Courtney

Shay a seemingly ordinary girl - other than her best friend being a ghost. I really loved this book it didn't turn out how I had expected it would. I found myself enthralled by Shay's character before the end of the first chapter!

The Inner City - Karen Heuler

I received a copy of The Inner City from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I really truly enjoyed the series of short stories in The Inner City. I enjoyed the strange and rather creepy elements that were incorporated into each of the stories, even some of the more docile ones like "Fish Wish" that weren't as scary as some of the others left a lasting impression on me. My favorites among the stories were probably as follows, "Down On the Farm", "The Escape Artist", "Creating Cow", "How Lightly He Stepped in the Air", and "Thick Water". The sense of wonder I was left with is something I sometimes have trouble finding when reading although its a part of it that I really enjoy. Being left with questions after you read is something that helps it seem like the characters are real and breathing out there somewhere instead of taking up space on paper. Karen Heuler has made her characters come to life and I highly recommend The Inner City to those who don't cringe at strange and peculiar happenings

Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo

Leigh Bardugo you are amazing! I loved Alina, I love Mal, I loved the plot, I loved the ideas, even the Darkling was amazing! So let's just be honest...I LOVED THIS BOOK! I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT IT! Wait there is one thing, I don't have the second one and that is going to make me cry. I can't wait to read it!!!

Green-Eyed Demon - Jaye Wells I actually accidentally started reading this (I didn't realize it was the third book in the series and I got very confused). It made me feel like a complete failure but oh well...
Snowed In Together - Ann Herrick Overall a very good brainless read. If you are looking for something intuitive this is probably not for you. The main character didn't really impress me, a little to underdeveloped for my liking I suppose. But I would say that it was a pretty decent quick read. Although I do feel like it would have been better if it was longer.
Love, Tink (the complete series) - Elle Strauss I received Love, Tink in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. Although I noticed a few errors like the lack of a quotation mark here and there, I really enjoyed reading about Tink. Tink and Jangle were both very interesting characters and they both surprised me on numerous occasions, especially Jangle who was one of my favorite characters. Tinkle was a bit pitiful following Peter around New York forever like a stalked when he had no clue who she was but she definently redeemed herself later. I really enjoyed the two fairies's cluelessness about Earth. Internet? Cellphone? What? Love, Tinkle was a very interesting story with likable characters and a cute story line. I would highly recommend it to lovers of fantasy type stories and fairies both.
Lovesessed - Pamela Diane King What I hate in books:-Self centered characters-Unrealistic dialogue-Lack of a setting-Characters repeating themselves over and over again-Unrealistic, unexplained insta love-Too much focus on the love part-Obvious third love interest that MC is oblivious toI avoid books with descriptions like Lovesessed's because I always end up hating them. They usually have a couple things from my above list. Lovesessed didn't have a couple of the listed things, it had all of them. Always. But this time I was stupid and thought maybe I should give it a try. What kind of idiot brain do I have? If possible I think that I disliked this book more than any of the books that I have hated in the past.
