Books Here and There

I really love books - that's why I'm here. Sometimes I write reviews, though they are not always that good.

I also have a great love for animals and have a rabbit, two dogs, a cat and two rats at the moment.

A Touch of Honor - J.P. Grider I probably would have enjoyed this more if the dialoge didn't seem so forced, it also seemed to me that the author was forcing Honor and Ethan together. I mean come on Ethan goes from creepy, to friend, to the love of Honor's life in the course of a few days. That really doesn't ring true to me. I also noticed that for one sentence it changed from first to third person! Editing is useful. Use it!
Thirty Seconds to Die (Thirty Seconds to Die, #1) - S.G. Holster I was truthfully shocked by the ending. Although the instant love seems a bit fast paste it the ending really makes up for it. But Lex really was a jerk to Ten at certain points and that got on my nerves.
Relic: The Books of Eva 1 - Heather Terrell I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. And I honestly loved it, a problem since it isn't published until October so I have to wait s really long time for the sequel. I don't want to give anything away to those who didn't get an arc copy but I will say that Eva is a lovable character with a strong opinion on what is right and wrong. I highly recommend Relic to those looking for a futuristic fiction and a fast plot that leaves you begging for more. it was definetly one of my favorite books.

The Last Victim

The Last Victim: A Novel - Karen Robards I received a copy of this novel in exchange for a review. You would think that after viewing the killings of a family at a young age you would avoid serial killers. Dr. Charlotte Stone did the opposite, this alone intrigued me. Why not get a job that keeps you farther away from those kind of people? Charlie's character then surprised me again by not being vulnerable or timid in the face of danger but for the most part tough and independent. Her relationship with Garland however, truly confused me. For starters he is a ghost and was in prison because he was a serial killer, and then all of a suddenly Charlie goes from despising him to trusting him add to the mess her feelings for him and habit of yelling at him and it makes perfect sense . Although I liked her I find Charlie's logic to be a bit muddled. I would recommend this book to someone looking for a book with an ending on the unexpected side and a tough minded, but sometimes dependent, heroine.
Evan Burl and the Falling - Justin Blaney I have not yet finished this book, I am only on Chapter Four so there is no need to take me seriously. But the "Note from the author on this Advanced Reader Copy," made me a bit sad. Mr. Justin Blaney there are so many different people in this world, no one is exactly the same and thus not everyone enjoys the same types of things. No one book will please everyone some people hate [b:Twilight|41865|Twilight (Twilight, #1)|Stephenie Meyer|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1361039443s/41865.jpg|3212258] some people love it, the same goes for Shakespeare and his works. So not everyone will be pleased with cliffhanger endings like you have said your book has. Personally I would hate it if everyone loved every book, how would you know good books from bad ones if the world was like that? If you change things in your book to make the angry people happy there will still be others who will remain unsatisfied. So I think you should write Evan Burl and the Falling the way you envisioned it, not the way others do, I imagine it would make you happier in the long run. So far your book is reading like a masterpiece to me, I can easily see why some people might find themselves upset that it ends with questions unanswered since they love it so much and can't imagine waiting for the second book to be published.

Altered

Altered - Jennifer Rush Altered was not at all what I expected. It was genius, usually I expect a lot of what happens. This was an exception I was completely clueless as to what would come next. Basically it was awesome. If there isn't a sequel I might just cry.
James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing (James Potter, #1) - Johnny Atomic, G. Norman Lippert Good effort was put into this but it just didn't work. In my opinion this completely ruined J.K Rowling's world. I couldn't even get through five chapters!
Nightlight: A Parody - The Harvard Lampoon Belle Goose is awesome. As well as hilarious although she doesn't really intend to be that way. I do think that she has a bit of a problem though especially since she mentions having a squirrel as a friend. Her love interest, Edwart, is a snow proof, cutie, who has never had a girlfriend and Belle is certain that he is a vampire. I can't believe how wrong she turned out to be, having read the original myself.
Addicted to Magic (Addicted, #1) - Brandi Salazar I feel like this book had a lot of potential. Jessica Warren is a witch who has a problem. She loves casting spells too much to use it in small doses and her Mom is addicted to it as well on a level that could be potentially deadly. Although I enjoyed the concept of this story it drove me a little crazy. The grammar made it hard to read and annoyed me to no end. Putting "I" instead of "me" or vice verse is hard to over look.If not for the grammar I would give this book at least three stars, maybe even four. But its hard to over look such obvious mistakes while reading. ARRGH!!!!!
The Thief of Always - Clive Barker This is a book that really sticks with you. Harvey Swick doesn't think about consequences, he just goes away with a stranger in the spur of a moment. Mr. Hood's house though at first seeming like the perfect getaway proves to be just the opposite and Mr. Hood's plans aren't so glamorous.

Reveal (Cryptid Tales, #1)

Reveal (Cryptid Tales) (Volume 1) - Brina Courtney Shay a seemingly ordinary girl - other than her best friend being a ghost. I really loved this book it didn't turn out how I had expected it would. I found myself enthralled by Shay's character before the end of the first chapter!
A Little Wanting Song - Cath Crowley I really liked this book. Charlie is a musician with talent who is too shy to show it and Rose is the girl who wants to leave town. It is interesting to me how Rose didn't like Charlie but then began to like her. I have not read many books that are so emotional and it was a bit of a nice change from what I usually read.
Linger - Kodilynn Calhoun This whole story felt way to rushed like the author had much more planned for it. So much more could have happened to make it more interesting and worthwhile. I am glad it was free.
Unbound (Havoc Chronicles, #2) - Brant Williams This book is one of the best I have read in a while. Although I know feel completely depressed and want to go live in a hole for a while so that I won't have to talk to anyone. I can't believe how many of my friends died there was Eric, Kara, Aata, and even Mallika. I am very much afraid that the next book will be even more depressing, though I do look forward to it.

Threads That Bind (Havoc Chronicles, #1)

Threads That Bind (Havoc Chronicles, #1) - Brant Williams I know I read it a long time ago but I still have to add a little review on Threads That Bind. There was so much I loved about it, Madison was a very likable character and I appreciated how she wasn't full of herself even though she was the only female Berserker. I feel like it would have been easy for her to get wrapped up in the idea. Although at points in the book I thought I'd cry it was one of my all time favorites, I hope the author writes more books soon because I certainly loved Threads That Bind and Unbound!

Incarceron (Incarceron Series #1)

Incarceron (Incarceron Series #1) - I loved it! So very fascinating and oh so very mysterious. Incarceron is a prison that is alive with hopes and dreams of it's own. Claudia is trapped in a world where technology is illegal and she is in an arranged marriage with, Caspar, a boy who she absolutely despises. When Claudia meets Finn a boy who lives in Incarceron she is convinced that he is Giles, the Prince, who she was told had died. Finn doesn't believe much of what Claudia says, but in order to escape their own separate nightmares they join forces to help Finn and his friends escape.I loved how Claudia had to save Finn instead of the other way around. Girl power! Yaahh! I also really enjoyed the contrast of the two character's lives. Claudia wants freedom so she doesn't have too marry Caspar, while Finn fights for freedom so he can both see the Outside and in the process save himself from what would ultimately end his life. Some things I didn't like were:-The Sapients who some of whom at least seemed to think they were the most important people you could find. I disliked how they were portrayed in that way when others showed more knowledge and comprehension than the all knowing Sapients did. The Sapients bothered me because it seemed knowledge, their supposed strongest feature didn't shine as brightly as some of their other traits. -The end because the problem wasn't even close to resolved (in my opinion).-And also I couldn't really decide if I thought Claudia was awesome or annoying which somehow bothers me.
